Recent developments in double beta decay

Abstract
The neutrinoless double beta decay (0?ßß-decay) is discussed in context of recent neutrino oscillation data. The expected half-lives of the 0?ßß-decay are calculated by assuming the inverted hierarchy of neutrino masses. The perspectives of the experimental 0?ßß-decay searches are analyzed. The problem of reliable determination of the 0?ßß-decay nuclear matrix elements is addressed.
